Sheep Hanging Out Near the Beach

Another thing I'm trying to get used to here is the fact that my day off is truly a day off. I almost don't know what to do with myself...

The first time I had a day off was actually 2 days after I started so it felt a bit wrong. I still feel weird when I'm not working but am realizing how important taking breaks is. Most days we have tea break at 11:00 and I've really come to enjoy that time. Never mind the freshly baked scones (some of which I make!) and tea...the rest and community around the big wooden tables is such an important part of the day. I think it also makes us feel valued rather than work-horses. It's something I will definitely take away with me.

So far, I have had three days off...right now, in fact, is my day off. It's pretty wet outside, so I'm enjoying lounge time.

The other days I've gone for walks, read, knitted, photographed sheep, napped on a beach, and hung out with other vollies in the common areas over tea and laughter.

I think I'm going to start compiling a "What to do on Iona During Your Day Off" list.

One day I spent a ridiculous amount of time online watching True Blood etc and by the end I felt really out of touch and wasteful. Funny how much things can change. Don't get me wrong...I still want to watch TV, but I want more human time than virtual time now.

Today some of the vollies organized a game of assassins. I have my victim's name, murder location and weapon in my pocket right now.

Gotta love it, right?

LOL

XOXO
