Picking Fallen Pine Branches
No matter how many issues I have with living in New York City these days, I am extremely grateful that I live within walking distance of a Park...when I take advantage of it, of course...
Which I did on Sunday.
I haven't felt entirely well since before Christmas...a pesky respiratory situation keeps plaguing me, but I figured I'd been house-bound enough. I thought, "Hey...I need milk to make yogurt...why don't I bring my new camera and take a detour through the park."
:)
I also wanted to get some more pine to make medicines for my lungs. A win-Win situation. Practice with the new camera and Pine gathering...not to mention time outside. Very practical and a bit whimsical. Not bad :)
I stopped in the alley to put on my fingerless gloves and was ready. I
can't tell you how right it felt to set out with my new coat, camera and
those gloves...
As I neared the trees, I felt something give way inside of me. Like an internal sob of gratitude.
I do so love trees.
I'm actually surprised I didn't spend more time wandering. But it was enough.
I met a few lovely souls along the way (some covered in fur) and felt immensely soothed in body and spirit upon my return.
At one point I happened upon various birds going about their afternoon, like I wasn't even there. There were robins, a red cardinal and a woodpecker. It was such a magical gift to stand there and be part of the landscape while they worked.
Then, after buying the milk, I went straight into the kitchen and spent the rest of the day and evening setting up some yogurt and various pine medicines. I even baked a bit.
And sang along to my iPod, of course.
Funny...the lungs seem fine enough after all that...and a nice bottle of Monster Ale ;)
Just goes to show you how much being out in nature alone can heal you. Or maybe it's simply living an authentic life. Hmmm...

My ultimate destination
