Lucky Ducks
As I write this, my "home office" is the floor of my room in the backpackers hostel in Oban. My computer is charging up, and there's free wifi!!! I am, after a long day of travelling, wanting to go to sleep...but I thought I'd at least start to put my thoughts down. I know these posts are a little out of date right now. I'm hoping to fix that eventually...
My trip from Edinburgh to Oban couldn't have been smoother, thank goodness. After being out of sorts in Edinburgh, the last thing I wanted was train drama.
The ride to Oban is so beautiful and quiet. A very different vibe from Metro North, guys...just saying :)
When I arrived I found the hostel pretty quickly...no threatening tears, no frustration. It was also pretty quiet and had a nice vibe. My friend Hilary was sure that some space was going to open up for me as soon as I got out here...seems she was right! (Although, right now there is some loud music playing and a whole lot of creaky footsteps going past my door...I'm trying to hold back sleep a while to see if it will calm down. Loud footsteps after midnight seem to be my cross to bear lately. Sigh).

I was put in room 3...a magic number

My Bed was Called "Cinderella"

I had the room to myself for a while

Then, I went for a walk...and it filled me with such joy. The weather was still with me and my mood lifting...here are some photos from my long evening in Oban.

I bought supper from a little stand on the pier....and ate outside.

Mussels cooking away in white wine and garlic

I was "brave" and tried the above. I can't really remember what it is (prawn tails, I think, but don't hold me to that). I was told it was better than the prawn cocktail, which they were out of. I was slightly panicked when I unwrapped it and saw that they still needed to be peeled. Fortunately, right before I possibly embarrassed myself, the girl who recommended it came by and asked if I knew how to peel them. Learn something new every day, no?

Citrus Crunch Cake, with a view
As I sat and ate my hot, smoked salmon sandwich, I had the brilliant idea of buying some cake to photograph for my friend Sophia's blog Cake With a View. The whole experience totally amused me since I was walking really fast trying to find a good place to catch both cake and view, before it started to rain. I got a few good shots in.

Where I ended my evening
I also ended up getting a really lovely roommate for the evening...A girl from Canada who has been backpacking around Europe. We ended up taking the ferry to Craignure together the following day. Iona always seems to find me traveling companions.
Right now, I am having my first day off on Iona...so far it's been a whirlwind. But really good. Stay tuned for more.
